Trip to the monasteries of Bucovina
Program of the trip
Day 1: Meeting with the group attendant at Gara de Nord – 6.00. The first objective of the day are the spectacular Cheile Bicazului and Lacul Rosu, the only natural dam lake in Romania. We then head to Piata Neamt, where we visit the Royal Court. Built between 1468-1475 by Stefan cel Mare, the role of the complex was an administrative one for the whole Neamt county.
The church of St. John the Baptist was built later, and a tower for the church of Stefan cel Marewas built. The Royal Court Complex in Piata Neamt is also part of the Royal Court Museum, located near Petru Rares High School. Arrival at the pension/hotel where we will be staying for the next 4 nights.
Day 2: After breakfast we go to the most famous monasteries in the area: Moldovita, Sucevita, Putna and Dragomirna. We will stop for visits to „Chilia lui Daniil Sihastru” from Putna and Egg Museum in Moldovița, the largest decorated egg museum in the world with over 11,000 exhibits. We end the day with a visit to the Marginea, a renowned folk art center, known especially for the black ceramics that are produced here. The pottery has ancient traditions in the locality. Here clay is manually modeled for the purpose of making dishes for domestic use for cooking or milk processing and various other ornamental forms. The ceramic produced here is unique internationally by the black color resulting from the burning, as well as by modeling specific traditional forms. Arrival at the pension/hotel.
Day 3: Breakfast. We take the bus to the Art Museum in Falticeni, a museum made up of the donation made by the Romanian sculptor Ion Irimescu and houses the largest collection of authors in the country. We then arrive in Suceava, where we will take a pedestrian tour of the historical center and visit the Museum of the Bucovinean Village. We stop in Botosani, a city known for the talents it has offered to Romania: Mihai Eminescu, George Enescu or Nicolae Iorga. We conclude the day at Ipotești, the place where the greatest poet of Romania lived, and which today houses a museum dedicated to Eminescu’s life and works, next to the tombs of his parents and brothers. There is also the lake with water lilies that inspired so many famous poems. Arrival at the pension/hotel.
Day 4: Breakfast. You can choose between a free day at the pension/hotel or you can accompany us on a trip (for a fee, EUR 25/person) across the border, in Cernauți. An enchanting mix of history and contemporaneity, with its old Center, spread over an impressive surface, the city is surrounded by beautiful and carefully restored buildings and monuments full of significance. At the University of Cernauți, studied a lot of personalities, from Ciprian Porumbescu to Parintele Staniloaie. The day in Cernauți will end with a walk on Olga Kobyleanska Boulevard, a course for young people and the elderly, which reaffirms the comparison between the capital of Austria and Cernauți, which was been called Little Vienna at the time. The boulevard is an exclusively pedestrian one and takes you through buildings built at the millimeter, from the City Hall and to the Metropolis. Arrival at the pension/hotel.
Day 5: After breakfast we will visit the Humor and Voronet Monasteries, the most beautiful jewels of Bucovina. We will also stop at Hanu Ancutei, the oldest inn in Romania (300 years old). Due to the extraordinary writings of Sadoveanu, Hanu Ancutei is still a tourist destination today. Visitors from all over the country come to discover the place that inspired the great writer and want to spend a few minutes indoors. one of the most famous Romanian inns of all time. Arrival in Bucharest in the evening, depending on traffic.
